| The Small Things A fire is a devastating and disastrous event. When the small Mennonite church in Montana burnt to the ground, the people not only missed the church but they found that those smaller things it sheltered were also so significant.
Mennonite Mutual Insurance Agency in Mountain Lake, MN received the claim about the church fire and immediately found that the coverage for the building and contents was satisfactory. After going further in processing the claim, it was discovered that the coverage for the pastor’s books was not adequate. Although MMIA paid the limit of the policy for his books, they didn’t stop there.
While working with Anabaptist and Brethren Agency, the church’s liability carrier, it was discovered that the liability policy had additional coverage’s. The extra coverage fulfilled the cost for the books but once word was out about replacing the pastor’s books; the mutual aid cup was overflowing. Mennonite Mutual Aid in Goshen, IN contributed $1,000 from their “Sharing Fund” and retired pastors from the area also chipped in. The former pastor of the church donated four boxes of books and three other retired pastors sent many more. They knew firsthand how important the small things - like books - benefit their church.
The pastor was so very grateful for the mutual aid. It came in many different ways but for only one reason. No matter how big or small the burden is - a Brother or Sister will always be there to help you through it.
